As global markets showed resilience, Bursa Malaysia experienced a slight rebound on Monday, halting a three-session downturn. This recovery was largely driven by gains in regional markets and strategic buying in heavyweight stocks. Investors saw an opportunity to capitalize on select stocks, which helped bolster the local market’s performance.
The key FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI index closed with a modest increase, adding 1.38 points to reach 1,666.94, marking a 0.08% rise. During the trading session, the index briefly climbed to 1,674.74 before facing profit-taking actions that trimmed its gains.
Significant contributors to the day’s positivity were stocks in the refining and renewable energy sectors. Hengyuan Refining Company notably surged by RM1 to end at RM4.34, while Petron Malaysia Refining also made a substantial gain of 33 sen, closing at RM3.79. Renewable energy firms saw similar enthusiasm, with Samaiden advancing 43 sen to RM2.38, Solarvest appreciating 36 sen to RM3.69, and Pekat rising 15 sen to RM2.26.
Amid these developments, the Malaysian ringgit strengthened slightly against the US dollar, appreciating by 0.13% to 4.0765. Meanwhile, in the commodities sector, Brent crude oil prices fell by 2.04% to US$101.75 per barrel as concerns over potential supply disruptions began to subside, adding a layer of complexity to the market dynamics.
Elsewhere in the region, major Asian markets concluded the day with gains. Japan’s Nikkei 225, South Korea’s Kospi, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, and key Chinese stock indexes all recorded positive movements, reflecting a broader sense of stability and investor confidence across the region.
