Vietnam and Malaysia are advancing their defence cooperation efforts as they aim to enhance bilateral relations and bolster regional stability. In a meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Phan Văn Giang engaged in talks with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, commending the ambassador for his contributions to fostering collaboration between the two countries.
During the discussions, Giang emphasized the achievements in defence relations, citing regular military exchanges and policy discussions as key areas of progress. Additionally, he underscored the importance of training cooperation and coordination at international and multilateral events as integral components of their partnership.
The Vietnamese defence minister advocated for the continued execution of existing agreements and called for enhanced engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. This initiative aims to further solidify the strategic ties between Vietnam and Malaysia.
In a gesture to deepen bilateral defence ties, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to take part in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to be held in Hanoi. This event is envisioned as a platform for fostering deeper military collaborations and showcasing advancements in defence technology.
Reflecting on his tenure, the Malaysian ambassador expressed gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their collaboration and support. He conveyed his optimism that the defence relationship between the two nations will continue to evolve, contributing to peace and prosperity within the region.
