At a pivotal forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia and China have cemented their bilateral relationship by signing three significant investment agreements totaling approximately $2 billion, equivalent to Rp36 trillion. These agreements, forged during the Indonesia-China Partnership Forum, underscore a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across key sectors including renewable energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
Among these agreements, the most substantial involves a groundbreaking initiative in North Sumatra: the development of a 300-megawatt agrivoltaic solar power plant. This project, valued at around $1.35 billion, will integrate solar energy production with agricultural operations, marking a major step forward in the region’s renewable energy landscape. Once completed, this innovative venture is poised to become one of the largest renewable energy projects in the area.
In addition to this landmark solar project, agreements were also finalized between Indonesian company Jobubu Jarum Minahasa and China’s Guangxi G. Taste Food Co., Ltd., as well as between Telkom Properti Indonesia and CNEC Engineering Indonesia. These collaborations reflect a broader strategy to invigorate Indonesia’s domestic industries through foreign investment.
Indonesia’s Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun, emphasized the strategic importance of attracting investments that not only foster job creation but also facilitate technology transfer and bolster domestic industry resilience. He pointed out that future collaboration between Indonesia and China will likely focus on renewable energy, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, and green technology, all aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth.
According to data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment, Chinese investments in Indonesia have reached a substantial $38.34 billion from 2021 through the first half of 2026, contributing to the creation of more than 500,000 jobs. These figures highlight the critical role Chinese investments play in Indonesia’s economic development and underline the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.
