Malaysia is setting its sights on a medal haul at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, aiming for a total of 33 medals, comprising six gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze, during the event running from September 19 to October 4. Chef de Mission Mohd Sumali Reduan has expressed confidence that this goal is attainable, taking into account the current form of the athletes, their recent performances, and the level of competition they will face from other Asian countries.
In preparation for the Games, Malaysia has identified 13 sports where their athletes have significant potential to secure medals. These sports include track cycling, badminton, archery, diving, squash, sepak takraw, hockey, athletics, sailing, karate, wushu, esports, and shooting. The Malaysian delegation will consist of 352 athletes accompanied by 185 officials, competing in 30 of the 43 sports disciplines available at the Games. Their participation will span 156 of the total 469 events.
Athlete Tan Cheong Min, who competes in wushu, will have the honor of carrying the Malaysian flag during the Games. Alongside her, track cycling standout Azizulhasni Awang is anticipated to be a key contributor to Malaysia’s medal aspirations, bringing his renowned skills to the competition.
Adding to the country’s sporting ambitions, Malaysia’s contingent for the Asian Para Games is also targeting success. They are aiming to bring home six gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze medals from the event scheduled to take place from October 18 to 24.
