The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has expanded opportunities for Malaysian professionals and companies by making its International Certificate in Operational Risk Management (ICORM) and three of its professional risk management award programs eligible for HRD Corp funding. This move aims to broaden access to globally recognized risk management education in Malaysia.
This initiative is designed to bolster the skills of Malaysian employers and professionals in enterprise risk management, particularly as businesses encounter growing challenges in areas like digital transformation, artificial intelligence, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and governance. IRM’s announcement is in line with Malaysia’s workforce development priorities, addressing the current skills gaps in risk management roles. The organization seeks to equip employers with adaptable, workplace-centric training to enhance decision-making and fortify organizational resilience.
The HRD Corp-funded educational offerings include several key programs. One focuses on managing the risks associated with artificial intelligence in the workplace, including governance, ethical, and operational concerns. Another centers on financial services risk management practices applicable to sectors like banking, insurance, and financial services. Also available is a program on managing organizational risks, which introduces the principles of enterprise risk management. The ICORM program itself covers operational risk frameworks, controls, monitoring, reporting, risk culture, and event management.
IRM Asia, the regional branch of the Institute and a registered HRD Corp training provider, emphasizes that eligible Malaysian employers can access funding for these approved programs while investing in professional qualifications recognized internationally. This initiative is a component of IRM’s broader effort to extend professional risk management education throughout the ASEAN region, thereby assisting organizations in cultivating long-term risk management expertise and capabilities.
